The Nigerian Entrepreneurs' Handbook on Digital Technology by FATE Foundation in collaboration with Verraki was quite frankly, the book I was the most excited to read in the FATE collection. I was excited because it was a book on my field, and I couldn’t wait to see what technologies FATE was recommending for Entrepreneurs.

Would they be tools I was already using or knew about? (thus validating my own knowledge and expertise). Or would they be brand new tools that I knew nothing or very little about? (thus teaching me something new). Either way, I couldn’t wait to find out what FATE Foundation’s book on Digital Technology had in store for me.

The good (maybe great) news is that it turned out to be a mixture of both. Most of the technologies covered in the book were things I already knew about (or was using). Technologies such as Data Analytics and Business Intelligence. Email and other forms of Digital Marketing. Running a Data-Driven Culture... etc. But nearing the very end of the book I learnt about something new. RPA - Robotic Process Automation.

I knew about Automation and some tools that one could use to automate but this RPA thing seemed more advanced than what I was familiar with. More importantly, none of the tools I knew of and many tools I didn't know of, were given as examples. I checked out these new tools and concluded that yes, this was something different.

I haven't yet tried to implement RPA with any of our existing processes, but the knowledge is there - and when I meet an applicable use case, I can draw on it. So as it turns out:

  1. I'm pretty on top of my game since I knew most of what was in the book
  2. The book was not useless since it taught me something new

But then again, this book was published in 2020 so...

Ya. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.
